Sunset Sailing on Sydney Harbour

Get your besties together and celebrate good times by chartering your own yacht on Sydney Harbour as reviewed by our very own NSW blogger Daniella.

Cheers!

The scene opens with ten girls relaxing on a luxury yacht, enjoying an endless supply of champagne as the sun starts to set over the harbour. Hair blowing in the wind, they glide under the majestic Harbour Bridge towards the Opera House, the sky a luminescent hue of orange, pink and blue. They laugh as ‘Lifestyles of the rich and the famous’ features on the iPod playlist, and make a toast “to life” – it doesn’t get much better than this.

A champagne sunset sail with the Australian Spirit Sailing Company has given me and my gorgeous gaggle of girlfriends the chance to create our own ‘movie moment’ while experiencing the crème de la crème of Sydney. We are greeted by friendly skipper Tony Smith as we board our private yacht ‘Katrina’ at King Street Wharf, and are invited to make ourselves comfortable as we prepare for our discovery of Sydney Harbours’ star attractions.

Bubbles And Views

While conversation and laughter flows, we involuntary pause to admire the breathtaking changes to the colour of the sky as we pass Milsons Point on our way to Vaucluse. We are served a platter of King Island cheeses, fruit and dips, a perfect match with the fast flowing champagne. Tony tells us that they have been taking people out sailing for over thirteen years, and his experience is evident in the smooth sailing of the vessel while we are struck by the view.

the cool breeze, and the skippers are attentive to our every need. The two hours seem to fly, and the Australian Spirit Sailing Company live up to their reputation as a must-do, five star experience. A city full of luxury and wonder, this trip provides an opportunity to live the life of ‘the leisure set’, press pause on our hectic schedules and celebrate fun and friendship. The music fades as the yacht pulls into the Harbour, the sun replaced by the glittering lights of Sydney CBD. Energised, we step onto the pier – it’s 7pm and we’re ready for a night on the town!

About Daniella

I had lived in three continents by the time I turned four, which I credit with inspiring my love of travel. I live by the beach in Sydney, and get excited about discovering new things and places, learning and reading. I have backpacked around South America, sailed around Croatia, studied in the USA and island-hopped in Greece. I have had all of my belongings (including passport) stolen in Uruguay, been trapped in a border town in Vietnam for over a month, and come down with chicken pox in Thailand. My best travel tip: expect the unexpected; don’t sweat the small stuff; and keep your eyes and mind open (“the voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes” – Marcel Proust)
